Ever since I started doing graphic design back in 1995, I have been striving to increase my knowledge and my marketability. The internet was still in its infancy back then, so I concentrated on print until 2001. I know print like the back of my hand. I can work around any PostScript error and make bullet proof PDF files for any purpose. My years at The Burlington Free Press have helped hone those skills, but I have had to look elsewhere to learn more.
Web design has been my passion since 1998. But it had only been a growing hobby until 2004. That year I started Hungry Burlington with two friends during the summer. This experience taught me more than anything had at the time, and I still have much to learn. Since I created the database, built the search engines, and did all of the coding, we agreed that I should be president. Running an internet business also requires non-computer skills like selling, marketing and recruiting a sales team. All of these skills are in play at Hungry Vermont, which has been going strong since October 2005.
My biggest strength comes from my ability to look for solutions from several different angles. Not just graphically, but from technical, marketing, sales, public and client points of view as well. Finding the right mixture of views and presenting the best options to the client is the way to make everyone involved take pride in the final product. |
